RE: When will small diesel pickups show up?

Diesels don't have to be expensive.
2009 VW Jetta TDI- $21,990
The nearest gas trim level is the SEL, which includes a sunroof for $22,790
Yes and the 265 horsepower / 425 lb-ft of torque, twin turbo 3.0 Bimmer diesels are landing in North America for 2010. O to 60 times of under 6 sec's.
The super motor will be an option in the X3, X5, and 335 sedan. These vehicles are very stable to boot but will cost a shade more than the Jetta's.:7(

RE: Reports: Chrysler, GM discuss merger,

Thats fine just dont call it American motor company (AMC) I hated those cars. Except for the 1 nice Javelin you saw every couple of years.
You must of never seen the late '60's AMX, my favorite was dark green. One of the nicest looking and best proportioned cars of that era. Optioned with the 390 V8 and 4 speed and it was pretty quick.
Yup.. This was my 1970 AMX that cleaned up at the Toronto Drag Strip( in it's class).

RE: Bike Rack on 1.25 receiver

It needs to be supported to stop it from bouncing or the 1.25 shank will break caused by metal fatique.
We have already had the bad experience when we had the same on the back of a pop up with "two bikes". A safety line kept the bikes with us but dragging them down the highway at 60 MPH destroys them very quickly.
A 2 inch receiver would be better but still support it to stop the bounce.

Were in.
Just got a non electrical site booked at Turkey Point. The forecasts look warm enough. Shouldn't need the 120V.

RE: Ford Excursion Questions

Tires won't make a Durango into an Excursion no matter how much someone 'proclaims' it!!! :S Joe
LOL.. Nobody said it would! :S
Continuing to promote smaller and lighter vehicles as comparably capable TV's to larger and heavier ones...continues to make me chuckle.

Quite a drawn out affair but looks like it may work out for you.
Congratulations on the new purchase.

RE: Ford Excursion Questions

Not sure... it has approximately 96K on it, and just has never been a good tow vehical... I have had two of them, both 2000's and neither of them had the power that I expected... Unfortunately, I bought them prior to needing a tow vehical and didn't find out until later...
Way back when, folks were starting use the first generation Ford Explorers as tow vehicles and they soon found out how bad they were.
Towing specialists found that by swapping out the donuts (P235X75x15)tires to 215x15 LT tires that the vehicle's handling and power improved greatly. This idea really applies to you if you have put over sized tires on the Durango.
The LT tires were smaller in dia so it improved the overall final drive ratio. They had far less sidewall flex so the side to side wallowing stopped.
The point is a new set of "right sized" tires may be all you need. Going into a used Ex diesel is risky business and can introduce you to a whole new can of issues.

RE: Towing a 2001 cub 23

First of all, you need to educate yourself. Towing can be complex, and there's plenty to know. I'd suggest starting by reading all of the Hitch Hints pieces (http://www.rvlifemag.com/hitchhints.html).
Agree with AlbertF... there is so much more to towing than numbers and the weight of the trailer. The hitch hints articles he mentioned are great.
On a recent vacation we saw a number of pro set up V6's towing more than 5,000lbs. When you talk with the owners they have no complaints.

RE: Got to make choice by Friday, 5th wheel or TT

Fuel Consumption:
Unless the 5er is a Shadow Cruiser with a pointed front end it is most likely the TT will push less air because of their lower profile.
The result is better fuel economy with the TT.

RE: Got to make choice by Friday, 5th wheel or TT

My bh usually doesn't notice towing issues but we came up behind another RV on our trip last week and she commented on how it was swaying and basically getting slapped around.
We passed the slower moving rig and was surprised to see it was about a 24'/25', 5er towed by a pick up. Normally on a good day the 5er's are very stable in straight line towing but this one was struggling at 90K/h with the gust and wind issues. Ironically, we easily passed this rig with our "car and trailer" towing at our usual 100kph without any sway issues or handling concerns.

RE: Eldarado Cadillac Pulling A 5er !!!!!! Any Pics ?

That would be the former owner of my house, John Jackson.
He drove the Caddy/Fifth from SoCal to central Canada each
summer so his wife could visit her parents. Although I
never saw it, the neighbors remarked about it many, many times.
Wow.. it's a small world.

RE: stopping sway

Very annoying intro at their site.
This unit needs to be tested by a reputable organization as well as a/b comparison runs using well known WDH hitches as well as hitches like Hensley.

RE: Anyone Going Camping for (Canadian) Thanksgiving ?

Lots are heading out for TG.
I can't find an electrical site anywhere in Southern Ontario, at least in the parks worth going to.
Last year we got lucky a week before and got a nice electrical site at Letchworth SP. My guess is someone canceled an I got on their web site just at the right time to nab the booking.
We may go to one of a couple private parks we like. Will see how it goes.
